What’s a hot dog lover to do? Hoffman Hots had a good run in Trinity Groves for a while, but their August 2015 relocation hasn’t turned into the promised reopening yet. The beloved Dog Stop closed in March this year and Samson’s Gourmet Hot Dogs closed their Oak Lawn location in May.

Bonus Fun Stuff: Go Nuts for Donuts in DFW.

Fort Worth and Denton are veritable hot dog deserts, but in Dallas, the hot dog culture is toughing it out (no pun intended), and could make a comeback at any moment. Check out some of these spots to satisfy your craving for those ultimately all-American, more than a sandwich “sandwiches.”

Fort Worth doesn’t seem to be quite the hot dog town that Dallas is. But if you’re dying for a hot dog, you can choose from regular, chili cheese, German, or Chicago style at Curly’s Frozen Custard. All dogs are made with Nathan’s Famous beef franks in this fun little stand with a picnic table patio.

Globe Life Park in Arlington

Is it possible to watch the Texas Rangers play and not eat a hot dog? Possible, yes, but not fun at all. So have some fun and try a hot dog, chili dog, bacon-wrapped hot dog, veggie dog, Chicago dog, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos dog, corn dog, brisket dog, or maybe even a taco dog. There’s foot long hot dogs too, and if that’s not enough, the Boomstick is a two foot long hot dog (with a price tag upwards of $25, Rangers game ticket sold separately.)

Jerry’s Wood-Fired Dogs

Best Hot Dogs in Dallas | Jerry’s Wood-Fired Dogs

UPDATE: Jerry’s is gone from Texas!! There’s just something about watching a guy (or girl) grill your hot dog over fire, right? They get that and lots more right at Jerry’s Wood-Fired Dogs. The quarter pound Big Dog or Jerry’s Original can be ordered in a dozen or more fun “styles,” or you can top your dog with your choice of more than 50 toppings.I found the bread remarkable. Turns out, they get fresh bread daily from Empire Baking Company, a local family-run bakery. Some of the specialty sausage offerings (and some of the beers) are local too.

Wild About Harry’s

While some hot dog spots are all about the meat (there’s the beef), Wild About Harry’s knows it’s also about the fun. This Knox Street frozen custard spot makes a mean (yet happy!) hot dog – several actually. In addition to NY and Chicago style, they offer a Dallas dog, a Texas dog, and even a Knox Street dog (with Thousand Island dressing, Swiss cheese, and sauerkraut.) There are also locations in Deep Ellum and in Burleson.
